Stephen F Powers, Our Founder

Steve was the original owner and therefore, Founder, of Steve’s Automotive. His automotive story begins in his father’s garage, and his legacy stretches to the present. Steve served proudly in the United States Air Force, including nearly 2 years in Vietnam. His time in the Air Force expanded his mechanical skills, and eventually led him to Denver Colorado. During his time stationed in Colorado, he fell in love with the state. In 1994, he founded Steve’s Automotive in Downtown Longmont Colorado. Steve ensured the highest quality Mechanical and customer service in the area through the years and two employees bought the business from him in 2020. His legacy lives on at 510 2nd Avenue, and we strive to make him and his family proud of our work. Steve was a proud member of the ColoRODans Car Club, and the shop sponsored many car shows throughout the region. We continue to sponsor the shows in his memory and we enjoy attending the shows as he did for so many years. Steve understood the importance of small family-owned businesses and supported other small businesses and local restaurants in the Longmont community. Sadly, on September 10, 2023, Steve passed away. He left behind a loving family and many friends. Steve’s Automotive looks forward to carrying Steve’s memory and legacy into another generation of families committed to high-quality service. Look for Phil at the shows with his own Pontiac T-37 or with Steve’s 1970 Chevelle.

At a young age, I was introduced to cars. My first introduction was a 1964 Impala. Once I decided to go to college many years later, I drifted towards doing something with my hands. Upon deciding to attend, I chose automotive as my path. Upon graduating, my career started working on the regular cars of the day. The interest in hot rods and classics came on fairly quickly. Having acquired an old car, the love affair grew rapidly. Twenty-plus years later I still love working on hot rods and classic cars. Steve and I had similar tastes in the automotive world and the same drive to take care of these beautiful machines. This was part of the decision to take over Steve’s Automotive and to continue the goal of doing things “Steve’s way”. We will always strive to do the best possible job at the best price for you and your automobile. Old or New, we will take care of you.

The road from customer to owner. I was the customer before I became part owner. My beginning with Steve’s started as a customer bringing my automobiles here for service. In 2010, I joined Steve’s team as a service writer. All these years later I am the smiling face you will meet at the counter. Taking over with Phil to take care of you all is what I strive to do every day. Myself and our team are here to take care of you and your automobiles in the best way we know how. Steve’s Way.
